We are inspired by a student’s smile upon seeing her brightly painted classroom. By the joy in a mother’s eyes at a colorful maternity ward. And by the laughter at a redesigned playground. This is our motivation for making our neighborhoods happier, more vibrant places.

Transforming spaces where we live and operate.

The COLORFUL COMMUNITIES™ program represents a 10-year, $10 million commitment to bringing together PPG volunteers, local nonprofits, government organizations, PPG products and financial support to transform spaces and lives in the communities in which we operate around the world. How? Through the magic of a fresh coat of vibrant paint and the rejuvenated energy and sense of pride and protection it brings to community spaces in need of a refresh.

A rainbow of color.

Nearly 120 volunteers from PPG's Wuhu, China plant and its customer Chery renovated the dormitory and school corridor of the Wuhu School for the Blind in Anhui province, China. For the first part of the project, they refurbished the corridors' columns and beams with green, red, yellow and blue paint to highlight a "four seasons" theme. But the second part of the project was much more special and designed specifically to meet the unique needs of the schools' students.

Touching the seasons.

Continuing with "the four seasons" theme, volunteers placed three-dimensional patterns of a piano keyboard on the corridor walls of the dormitory building and then drew the notes of Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi's signature The Four Seasons concertos. This wall art will help the school's students experience the change of seasons simply by touching the painted melody.

Art is a common language for all," said Cathy Yan, general manager, corporate & government affairs, Asia Pacific. "We were pleased to bring color to the school and help students experience art and other positive aspects of life. This was a very special Colorful Communities project."
